Dr. Okereke was born in Nigeria were he graduated high school, worked as a Radio/TV broadcaster, and also earned a B.Sc. degree in Geology before traveling to the United States in 1979 for graduate studies. In US, he earned an M.S. degree in Applied Hydrology from Stanford University, an M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the UCLA, an Engineer Degree in Civil Engineering from UCLA, and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering also from UCLA.

He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and American Geophysical Union (AGU)

Dr. Okereke has broad knowledge and expertise in the fields of civil, environmental, water resources, petroleum engineering, geotechnical engineering, and applied mathematics. His part-time teaching experience includes undergraduate engineering class at UCLA, and graduate civil engineering class at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), and Environmental Management class at UCI Extension.

He is a registered Professional Engineer and General Engineering Contractor in California, and has worked in senior management positions in reputable large and small engineering corporations in the United States where he directed major projects that included site improvement plans, water resources planning and development, wastewater treatment and recycling; and soil and groundwater pollution assessment and remediation. His employment history includes the following:

· Senior Project Manager, IT Corporation, Irvine, California
· Manager of Geosciences, W. W. Irwin, Inc., Long Beach, California

He is very actively involved with a number of NGOs and charitable organizations. He is currently the Executive Director of a non-profit organization he started in 19969 called the African International Institute.

He is married to Gloria Okereke. They both have three sons, and one daughter.
